Son, sole caregiver for his sick mother, faces deportation on July 29th.<\/strong><\/big><\/p>\n Mother suffers from a progressive degenerative illness; the family awaits a decision on a humanitarian application<\/strong><\/p>\n SEE UPDATES HERE<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n VIDEO: http:\/\/youtu.be\/l-1fzOtuNHo<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n MEDIA COVERAGE:<\/p>\n Julia Hidalgo, who suffers from a degenerative illness, will be separated from her son and only caregiver, H\u00e9ctor Reyes, in less than a week unless there is a last minute reprieve.<\/p>\n Julia Hidalgo was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. She has important physical handicaps and uses a wheelchair. She also has difficulties breathing. Hector is the only family support Julia has; he is her only care-giver in the context of a long-term, neurological and degenerative illness.<\/p>\n Hector’s original refugee application was refused by Immigration Canada. In order to remain with his mother, Hector then applied for a sponsorship, which was accepted at the federal level by Immigration Canada. However, Immigration Quebec denied a Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec (CAQ) for the sponsorship. The family has now applied for permanent residence on humanitarian grounds and hopes for an answer from the federal Minister of Immigration on that application before H\u00e9ctor’s deportation, scheduled for Tuesday.
