Solidarity Across Borders’ Message for Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety: Stop the detention of migrants; implement a regularization program immediately!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

(Montreal, August 15, 2016<\/span><\/span>) Solidarity Across Borders, a migrant justice network working directly with detained migrants as well as individuals and families facing removal, learned today of an announcement by Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety responsible for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). His announcement concerns detentions centers in Canada, including the Laval Immigration Detention Center in Quebec.<\/p>\n

In the words of Noe Arteaga Santos, a member of Solidarity across Borders, “Solidarity Across Borders demands the closing of all immigration detention centers. No migrants should be detained at all.”<\/p>\n

Jaggi Singh, also a member of Solidarity Across Borders, adds “Minister Goodale’s announcement is a distraction from the real issue, which is that people who are migrants should never be detained, period.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Solidarity Across Borders re-iterates its call for a full, comprehensive, inclusive and ongoing regularization for all undocumented and non-status migrants in Canada, including people who are detained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
