IF YOU’RE NOT ANTI-FASCIST, WHAT ARE YOU THEN?<\/span><\/p>\n

\nQu\u00e9bec City, September 5, 2017 — Earlier today a group of anti-racist\/anti-fascist\u00a0organizers dropped a series of banners. This action is a part of an\u00a0ongoing and decentralized struggle against Qu\u00e9bec right-wing extremists\u00a0and white nationalists promoting xenophobic, anti-immigrant and racist\u00a0views. The banners, displayed prominently along major arteries during\u00a0the morning commute, read “Si tu n’es pas anti-fasciste, t’es quoi\u00a0alors?” (Translation: “If you’re not anti-fascist, what are you then?”)<\/p>\n

Anti-fascism is anti-racist action.<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

We denounce the practices of scapegoating and fear-mongering that\u00a0targets Muslims and other racialized immigrant groups. Such practices\u00a0both implicitly and explicitly blame these groups for the consequences\u00a0of neoliberal capitalism.<\/p>\n

We also denounce the state detention of Haitian and other migrants for\u00a0fleeing across arbitrary borders without the approval from the colonial\u00a0state as well as the recent, highly-mediatized campaign against a man of\u00a0colour for his political activism.<\/p>\n

This is not a time for debate or false equivalencies. Far-right groups\u00a0are growing in visibility and influence in Quebec \u2013 they promote and\u00a0defend white supremacy and ongoing colonialism, often with the tacit\u00a0support of the police. White nationalists have drawn the lines of\u00a0engagement, demonstrating hatred and contempt for immigrants, people of\u00a0colour, Indigenous peoples, people of non-Christian faiths and\u00a0backgrounds, and anyone else who disagrees with their political vision.\u00a0In this context, there is no principled neutral position. We call on\u00a0people everywhere to join us in taking anti-fascist action.<\/p>\n
