UPDATE:<\/strong> The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) has refused the request to stop Amadou’s deportation. If Ministers Diab or Anandasangaree do not intervene, the deportation will proceed on Sunday. Amadou is a Senegalese activist and the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) even recognized that Amadou was repeatedly arrested and tortured in his country of origin because of his involvement in a grassroots social movement challenging the government of Macky Sall (in power until 2024). Canada now plans to send him back to Senegal, even though Amadou is highly critical of the new government\u2019s use of arbitrary detention, police brutality, and repression, which led to the death of a student activist in February. Amadou fears suffering the same abuses if he is deported.<\/span><\/p>\n There was a solidarity rally for Amadou on 11 Avril<\/a>.
