Statement in Solidarity With Wet’suwet’en Land Defenders

We at Solidarity Across Borders express our unequivocal solidarity with the people of the Wet’suwet’en nation in their continued resistance to colonial incursions into their territory, and join the call for urgent action in the face of the violent intervention being carried out by the RCMP. In December, a British Columbia Supreme Court judge granted an injunction against the land defenders at the Unist’ot’en Camp, who have for years maintained a blockade to prevent construction of the Coastal GasLink (TransCanada) pipeline project, which would run through unceded Wet’suwet’en territory. Call to action in solidarity with the migrant caravan from Honduras and other central American countries currently making its way to the US-Mexican border

On October 12th, a group of about 1400 migrants – most from Honduras, and including many families – began walking towards the US-Mexican border to escape a situation of generalized violence, endemic poverty, and government repression which has intensified since the 2009 coup, which was supported by the Canadian and American governments. Currently, the number of people in the multiple caravans that cross Mexico to the US border is estimated at about 14,000 people. For years, each day, thousands of migrants have left countries in the region to try to make their way into...

Solidarity Across Borders launches videos to help undocumented migrants survive encounters with the SPVM

These two short videos are aimed at making the undocumented members of our communities safer in their interactions with Montreal police (SPVM). By undocumented, we mean people who have stayed after being ordered to leave Canada, overstayed a visa, etc. Despite Montreal’s Sanctuary City declaration, undocumented community members continue to be at risk if they come into contact with Montreal police. Montreal police can hand undocumented migrants over to the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), which is responsible for detaining and deporting migrants. In our short videos, we have drawn on true experiences to construct two scenarios to help...
