MONTREAL–At a press conference outside the immigration offices where Paola Ortiz is required to present herself to be issued a new deportation date, the Federation des Femmes du Quebec and other women’s rights groups will add their voices to the public call to stop Ms. Ortiz’s deportation to Mexico, a country she fled to escape sexual abuse and domestic violence at the hands of her then-fiance, a federal officer in the Mexican police.

Following a public declaration signed by over 25 organizations and more than 100 of Ms. Ortiz’s neighbours and community members, immigration authorities temporarily postponed the deportation of the mom of two young Canadian children, originally scheduled for Tuesday morning, after medical personnel at Trudeau airport deemed her too unwell to travel.
