Call for support (ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਲਈ ਕਾਲ ਕਰੋ ): Stop Deportation of Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh Letter writing and art making

**Wednesday, August 9, 5pm to 7pm**

Place de la Gare-Jean-Talon, Metro Parc

Join us for an action to collectively write letters to the two Ministers to demand cancellation of the deportation de Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh. We will also a be making art in solidarity with the couple.

The elderly couple of 70 and 79 years old are facing deportation to India on August 12, 2023 despite all evidence that their life is in danger in India. We denounce the deportation of Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh. We are calling instead for status for all, and for a comprehensive, ongoing regularization program for all migrants!

Status for all!

No to deportations!

No to detentions!

“I am writing to ask that you stop the deportation of Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh, an elderly couple, to India, which is scheduled for August 12, 2023. They need protection and health care, and not deportation. What they need is consideration and status, so that they can live in dignity here with their community. Please act now, so that Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh can stop living in constant anguish – and please do the same for all non-status people!”

Full details below:

The elderly couple, 70 and 79, are living in Montreal for the past eight years and call it home. They left India following political violence in Punjab, India. “We’ve been through a nightmare in India, including the arrest and torture of my husband,” said Kaur in her interview to CTV. Their refugee application was refused by the government and after going through all the bureaucratic hurdles, Canada is now set to deport the couple back to India where the violence against Sikhs and other minorities is on the rise under the authoritarian leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his fascist Hindutva ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

Mr. Singh said, “for me returning to India means death.” He has been under treatment for PTSD and suffers from depression. His mental health is further deteriorating since they received deportation orders.

Rajvinder Kaur, a former village chief (Mayor), is an integral part of the Parc Ex community – involved notably at the Parc-Ex Library and at Afrique au Feminin. Their humanitarian application is being processed, and was supported by dozens of community members. We call upon the Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, to accept their application for permanent residency on humanitarian and compassionate grounds instead of deporting them to a hostile environment where they cannot simply live in another state or jurisdiction without being followed by the security police of the ruling party.

We denounce the deportation of Rajvinder Kaur and Randhir Singh.

We are calling instead for status for all, and for a comprehensive, ongoing regularization program for all migrants!

Status for all!

No to deportations!

No to detentions!
