Call to Action : Amadou, Senegalese Activist, facing deportation on 19 April

UPDATE: The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) has refused the request to stop Amadou’s deportation. If Ministers Diab or Anandasangaree do not intervene, the deportation will proceed on Sunday. Please do write and call the numbers below to try to get the Ministers to intervene.
Here is a video report (in french) on Amadou
Stop the Normalization of Deportation! Status for All!

Join us to mobilise against the deportation of Amadou* on 19 April. Amadou is a Senegalese activist and the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) even recognized that Amadou was repeatedly arrested and tortured in his country of origin because of his involvement in a grassroots social movement challenging the government of Macky Sall (in power until 2024). Canada now plans to send him back to Senegal, even though Amadou is highly critical of the new government’s use of arbitrary detention, police brutality, and repression, which led to the death of a student activist in February. Amadou fears suffering the same abuses if he is deported.

There was a solidarity rally for Amadou on 11 Avril. Ministers Diab and Anandasangaree have not responded and Amadou is still facing imminent deportation.

Take action for Amadou:

  • Write or Call Ministers Lena Metlege Diab and Gary Anandasangaree to intervene to stop Amadou’s deportation. You will find a sample email to send and their contact information at this link.

In 2025, Canada deported over 22,500 people, with CBSA boasting a record. It is more important than ever to take action against the normalization of deportation and Canada’s cruel and deadly border policies, which are even worse now that Bill C12 has entered into force and the Safe Third Country Agreement has been strengthened.
